AFROTC

Highland Park AFJROTC is a student led program that focuses on citizenship, character development, leadership, and community service. It is based on self-expression, and student cadets develop without fear of peer pressure and or outside misconceptions; such as thinking there is a military commitment. The intent of the program is to make better citizens; not prepare them for military service. As a military based or influenced program, JROTC course work includes military history, customs, and courtesies of their respective armed services branch. Students are required to wear a uniform at least once per week; adhering to the same dress and appearance standards commensurate with those of active duty service members. Cadets also participate in physical fitness training and drill instruction; which many compete in local and regional meets. Some of the skills cadets learn will help them to be productive in whatever endeavors they pursue in life. Soft skills such as leadership, self-confidence, and discipline help student cadets become successful in their high school careers and beyond. As Kansas' oldest JROTC program, Highland Park's JROTC program has proven to be an essential foundation in the development of many young men and women; since its inception in 1988.
