Nancy
Hutzell, Curriculum Coordinator
This is Ms. Hutzell’s twelfth year at HPHS. She was first hired as a Business Education teacher for the 1996 – 1997 school year. After a year back in the classroom, she was hired as the Curriculum Coordinator and resides in Room 101. Ms. Hutzell’s work experience consists of 6 1/2 years at Hamilton Business College in Mason City, 11 years as a Medical Secretarial Instructor at KATS, and 3 years at AmeriComp as a computer salesperson. She received her teaching degree from the University of Northern Iowa and her masters at Pittsburg State.

Ms. Ramirez-Johnson joined Support Services in the spring of 2009. She helps implement the badge program, coordinates special programs, assists with testing and helps in numerous other ways. She was been a police officer, and is working toward her Bachelor's degree in Business Administration.

Ms. Hodison has been a part of Highland Park for many years. She became the Truancy Coordinator in the spring of 2009. She previously had a career in health care and nursing home administration.

Pathways
to Success is a whole-school improvement project developed and coordinated by
the University of Kansas Center for Research on Learning. It's cornerstone is
the power of partnership and collaboration between teachers and the Instructional
Collaborator. Pathways provides targeted academic skill instruction using reading,
writing, and learning strategies along with Content Enhancement Routines. The
initiative offers on-site support, professional development, and ongoing instructional
feedback.

Diana Beitz , Student Achievement Coordinator

Mrs. Beitz joined the staff of HPHS in 2007. She works with various programs designed to help all students achieve, promote the school and ensure that the highest of curricular standards are reached. She also serves part time as an instructional coach. She has been in the district since 1993 as a math teacher, most recently at French Middle School. She has a B.Ed from Washburn, as well as Masters degrees in Curriculum & Instruction and Administration from Washburn.
Frankie Lizar, Literacy Coach

Ms. Lizar came to HP in 2007 as a language arts teacher in the Freshman Academy, then became the Literacy Coach in 2008. She works closely with language arts teachers to help them provide the best possible learning environments in their classrooms. Her undergraduate degree is in English from Washburn, and she holds a Master's degree from Emporia State in Education. She is currently finishing her Master's in School Leadership through Emporia.
