(If a student is listed as repeating a grade- 9R, 10R, 11R -he or she could qualify for classes that are listed as the next grade level. For instance, a student with a 10R status could be able to enroll in a course open to 11th and 12th grade students.)

1320-Classroom Assistant (S) - No Credit
A limited number of students will be permitted to receive credit as office and/or selected department proctors.  Applications for these credit positions are available from the student's counselor

1350-Library Assistant (S) - Consent
Students receive one semester Language Arts elective credit.  A limited number of students receive permission from the librarian to enroll as students aides.  During the year, rotation assignments offer further opportunities for training in the various services that the library performs.  A student enroll for one or two semesters only.  Excellent attendance is mandatory.

1360-Office Assistant (S) - Consent
A limited number of students will be permitted to receive credit as office and/or selected department proctors.  Applications for these credit positions are available from your counselor. 

1390-Independent Study (S) - Consent
The student will choose an advisor, study independently, submit a written report to their advisor, and will have an oral examination.  All independent study programs for the fall semester must be submitted and approved by May 15.  All independent study programs for the spring semester must be submitted and approved by November 15.  For more details, consult a counselor. 

1420-Teachers Aide (S)
The student assists an elementary or middle school teacher in non-professional activities such as grading papers, tutoring, etc., a maximum of three units may be earned in this course.  Students may also opt to serve as a teacher aide for one block a day working with a Highland Park High School teacher.  

1405-Carrer Focus (S) - 12th Grade only
This is an internship program between Highland Park High School and the Topeka Youth Project along with local businesses, which permits selected students to work on-site under the supervision and direction of administration, professionals and/or paraprofessionals.

1441-Television Production 1 (S) - Consent
This course will introduce students to audio (radio) and television journalism through hands-on experiences with such equipment as video cameras, editors, switching, tape recorders, etc. They will learn script writing and production techniques for both informative and entertainment programs. Students will be required to work additional hours outside of class time on production of television programming.

1442-Television Production 2 (S) - Television Production 1 and Consent
After learning the basics of producing programs for the electronic media in Television Production 1, the student will choose a specialized area (such as reporting, editing, camera handling, production, directing, script writing, etc.) and continue his/her study. This course may be repeated for elective credit. Students will be required to work additional hours outside of class time on production of television programming.

1450-Work for Credit (S) - Consent
This program is designed to provide an opportunity for students to earn high school credit in a work-study experience. To qualify for the program, the student must be classified as a senior and be enrolled in four other high school classes.

5800 Science Lab Assistant (Y)
Consent - Two years of prior coursework is recommended.
Students accepted by science teachers for this assignment will receive instruction in the preparation of laboratory materials and will assist the teacher in routine laboratory and classroom duties as well as lab assistant during class lab sessions. Enrollment as a lab assistant does not fulfill any science requirement.
